VOLoCITY (pronounced Velocity) is a part-time volunteer program for youth to build new friendships and skills. Volunteer projects can take place at any time and generally last anywhere from
2 - 6 hours depending on the location and needs of that agency. Participants are expected to attend all trips during the session that they are registered for. Trips tend to be during the day, but on
occasion there may be an evening trip. Many agencies give us a tour and talk about their programs. This is a program to introduce volunteer ethics to youth. This is not a child care program. Disruptive or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. Transportation from the Recreation & Senior Center will be provided in a large city van.
Youth attend ALL TRIPS during the session.

Learn to sail...and then some! This 4-day adventure and youth empowerment camp teaches the basic skills of sailing with a US Sailing Certified Instructor along with the added element of shifting negative thought patterns into an empowering mindset of possibility. At ABLE to Sail, campers develop skills to replace "I can't" and I'm not" with "I AM" and "I CAN!".

Every lesson in sailing is used as a metaphor and teachable moment to address...belonging, bullying, being good enough, depression, anxiety, letting go of mistakes, celebrating diversity, high risk behaviors, the "self" in self-esteem, and negative thinking.

This class is an introduction to the sport of jump rope. We will work on single rope, double dutch, long rope, and other skills. Please wear athletic shoes and bring a water bottle! Each participant will receive a new jump rope. Upon completion of this class, participants will be invited to try out for the Levitate Jump Rope Team.

Build existing skills and grow your jumping style in this intermediate to advanced group of jumpers. There will be a focus on learning new skills, fitness, performances, and competition. There will be opportunities for travel to competitions and workshops. Jumpers must have successfully completed the Levitate Jump Rope Team - Beginner Club and received an invitation to join or have previously participated in a jump rope team. Sample the art of calligraphy, explore the intricacies of ikebana flower arrangements and origami, and get hands-on with traditional martial arts. You’ll even become a pro with chopsticks! Learn conversational skills with introductions and greetings in Japanese, accompanied by iconic tunes. Join us for an enriching blend of activities lead by our native Japanese instructor.

There is something magical about fairy houses and we want to bring some magic to Louisville! Create your own fairy house at home, either individually, as a group, or as a family, and share it with the community Oct 19-27. Place your fairy house by a tree of your choice on the trail around the arboretum (one tree per family/group please) at the Louisville Arboretum by 8am, October 19. We will invite the community to enjoy a walk around the arboretum through the weekend to enjoy the houses. Please pick up your house by Monday, October 28. This event is free, but please register in advance.

Enjoy a variety of supplies in order to make our very own fairy house to take home (or bring to the Fairy House Walk at the Arboretum in October!). This is a family-friendly event where parents/caregiver and children will work together to make their own whimsical home(s). Price is per house (build one for the whole family or one per person, sign up for as many spots as you need). Parent/caregiver attends with children. This is not a drop-off event. Snack provided.

This camp introduces children to the fundamentals of yoga postures, mindfulness and meditation. If fosters bodily an social awareness, refines gross motor skills and cultivates inner peace. Camp will incorporate music, games, and crafts. It is full of fun and total stress relief! Children will learn skills that can be transported off the mat and into everyday life. Please send your child to class with a water bottle, yoga mat, and nut-free snack.
